Can CBD Oil Cause Mental Health Problems?

People who consume extremely strong THC cannabis concentrates, such as hashish butane oil, may be at greater risk of suffering mental health damage, including depression, anxiety and psychosis. Cannabis can cause hallucinations, mood changes, amnesia, depersonalization, paranoia, delirium and disorientation. It can also make it harder to concentrate or remember things, cause difficulty sleeping and feelings of depression. The current situation, in which the user does not know what the product actually contains, makes CBD unsafe and the risk outweighs the benefit of recommending or using that substance.

CBD products are widely available and are marketed as medicines, dietary supplements, foods, cosmetics and animal health products. In fact, CBD interacts with several medications, including pain relievers, antidepressants, anticonvulsants and diabetes medications. In particular, the CBD content must be subject to stricter regulations with laboratory controls to determine and guarantee a particular dose or content of CBD and to exclude a THC content greater than the 0.3% permitted by law. Preclinical evidence from rodent studies suggests that CBD may have beneficial effects on arthritis-related pain and inflammation.

However, human studies are lacking. In one study, 33 patients with schizophrenia were followed up over a 4-week period and received amisulpride or CBD. CBD has often been associated with the side effects of sedation, which would be very negative in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and would cause other medical complications due to decreased activity in this elderly population. Researchers are currently investigating how CBD can be used in the treatment of other mental health disorders. CBD may help reduce some cancer-related symptoms and side effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain. CBD binds to CB receptors normally activated by endogenous CBs such as anandamide and 2-arachidonylglycerol.

Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce chronic pain by affecting endocannabinoid receptor activity, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters. CBD oil has shown promise as a treatment for some mental health disorders such as anxiety disorders leading many people living with these conditions to become interested in this natural approach. These findings indicate that scientists could convert CBD into anti-nausea treatments for people receiving chemotherapy. The difference with over-the-counter (OTC) CBDs is that Epidiolex shows the same CBD content and dose from unit to unit. Keep in mind that some of these health benefits are related to the use of CBD combined with THC, not just CBD. In animal models, CBD has been shown to prevent glutamate-induced excitotoxicity and reduce inflammatory mediators and reduce lipid peroxidase.

The potential risks associated with consuming CBD oil must be taken into account before deciding whether or not to use it as a treatment for mental health issues. While there is evidence that it may be beneficial for some conditions such as anxiety disorders, more research is needed to determine its safety and efficacy for other mental health issues.
